My Small Business Experience
My yarn dyeing business, Knitcircus, started in our home basement. I hired one person, then three, then five…we created a Kickstarter to lease a studio. Two years later, I added a brick-and-mortar store, then next year expanded it to twice its former size. I know what it’s like to make payroll for 15 people, reset when suppliers don’t come through, use every resource at hand, manage transitions, market effectively and put together a team of valued employees. Knitcircus Yarns was a thriving company with a dozen employees, studio, retail shop and web store when I sold it to my production manager, freeing me up to help other people succeed with their own small business visions.
